Dismissed for not working Christmas Day, awarded €15,000

 

A nursing home employee, who was dismissed after she told her employer that she could not work on Christmas Day, for family reasons, has been awarded €15,000 by the Employment Appeals Tribunal, which found that the sanction used was “disproportionate in the circumstances.”
